Things That Make Me Smile: Teenage Dreams

Like Katie Perry I'm a teenage dreamer and I'm a California girl, so naturally I'm a sucker for surfers. As a teenager I was pretty much obsessed wih Roxy Quicksilver and all that it encompassed, it was the California life I wanted. My room was littered with Roxy & Quicksilver ads and posters featuring all my favorite surfers. Kelly Slater being my favorite surfer and surfer boy crush at the time. It was Teenage Dreamin (or California Girlin it) at it's best.

In September when I attended my first Surf competition in Hermosa Beach I saw ads for the Rip Curl Pro Search Somewhere in San Francisco and I knew had to attend. After checking the event out more I came to find that Kelly Salter was lined up to clinch his 11th World Title -- umm SICKNESS. I knew I had to be there to witness it, and I sure did.
I headed out Tuesday to watch the event solo and the weather was perfect and the waves were amazing. Ocean Beach felt like anything but San Francisco and as a Native Bay girl I was proud that San Francisco was being showcased in way that's anything but what you normally picture. Eighty degrees on the beach up North?
Yup it happens this time of the year.

Kelly didn't get a chance to clinch on Tuesday, so yesterday Gigi and I headed back out and watched history go down as Kelly shredded the waves up and then was awarded his 11th world title. It was one of those moments and events that I'll never forget and I am so glad I made the effort to go (the feeling reminded me a bit like going to the World Series Parade, which I also went to solo). Gigi and I got to watch Kelly Slater accept the title from the VIP lounge, thanks to Gigi's friends Lindsey and Andy (of San Franpyscho) and we got to go an awesome after party. It was an amazing day to say the least!!

I believe you're never too old to remember what you loved as a kid and teenager. And you're never too old to live out your dreams.
Yesterday I was not only able to only check "seeing Kelly Slater surf in person" off my bucket list, I also witnessed sports and surfing history.
I'm a California Dreamer, alright. And if you're not already living your dream, go dream and LIVE!!

Look of the Day: I {hella} Love the Bay, Like I Love LA

Yesterday I took my 13 year old friend Karen for her first trip Telegraph Ave and Downtown Berkley. Karen and I call each other sisters because we look a lot alike, and I have known her since she was 5 so she likes to come to me for sisterly advice. Karen always asks me questions about what kind of things I did as a teenager and Telegraph has come up a lot because I spent a lot of time wandering around there buying hemp bracelets and funky rings. And, to my regrets, I came home with several holes in my ears from there, seven holes to be exact. So it was fun to take Karen around and see the typical Telegraph street crowd (always entertaining) , the college campus and experience some hippie vegetarian food.
We dined at Saturn Cafe, and it was the second best Veggie burger I have ever had.
The best being the Beet burger from The Pant Cafe in San Francisco.
It is really cute how the place is decorated like a typical diner but everything was Vegan and Vegetarian! Gotta love it.
I ordered the sliders, a collection of four of their famous burgers. The Jalapeno was my favorite. Karen ordered the Saturn burger with a side of their award winning fries. Karen also wanted to try a milkshake, she picked Turkish Coffee for us to sample. So good!
I ended being a tourist myself and I purchased a T shirt because I just couldn't resist.
I mean I do HELLA love the bay.
And as a lifelong Nor Caler, hella is one word I can't seem to shake from my vocabulary.
Gwen Stefani knows what it's all about. The rest of the SoCalers like to point out any time hella rolls off my tongue.
You've got me feeling Hella Good, So let's just keep on dancing.
Abercrombie plaid shirt, American Apparel I hella Love the Bay Tee, J Brand Jeggings.
I hope your Friday is hella good!

Look of the Day: So Hot We'll Melt Your Popsicle

I love The Bay, Like I Love LA
I am a California girl, born and raised. So it's no surprise when Katy Perry's California Gurls comes on, I turn the radio up a few notches and bump it a little louder. The song is not only hella catchy but it is a shout out to the State I have resided in for 27 years. And that home state pride was the same mentality I had behind the purchase of this shirt Truly Madly Deeply Shirt, purchased from Urban (I bought it last week, but I already don't see it on the website). It was the perfect shirt to wear on a lazy Sunday when I was feeling kind of sick. And I am still feeling sick, not cool.
My Earing are from the Etsy boutique Petal and Pink.
Pennie Lane is in my ears and in my eyes.
Fine, fresh, fierce
We got it on lock
Unfortunately the weather was not hot enough to melt any Popsicles.
Other cute ways to rep your home state or current location, include Maya Brenner's State necklaces, she now carries all fifty states.
Or showing your State or City Spirit by rocking Victoria's Secerts PINK College or Baseball tees.

Yay for Katy Perry, Summer Jams and Loving where you are from!
