Look of the Day: Little Ditty

Sequins and stripes are a weakness of mine; my closet is littered with them. I like skirts too, skirts are my favorite. They are versatile, girly, lady-like and transform clothes into an 'outfit'.

This Ecote Geo Wrap skirt from Urban Outfitters is about 5 years old (I purchased it after seeing it on Lauren Conrad) and it never ceases to amaze me how I continue to reach for it in my closet. You can see how I wore it here, here, and it's first debut here. It's bright, flattering and I always get tons of compliments on it.

Classic pieces of clothing, that can be worn over and over, have changed my shopping habits. Now I stop and think "Could I really wear this five years from now?" and chances are a flattering skirt (that's not too short) will be around in five years. I've definitely got more then my money's worth on this little ditty.

Look of the Day: Backyard BBQ

On Monday evening I attended a backyard bbq at our friend's house. It was nice to sit outside relax, laugh with good friends, and enjoy a warm summer evening eating some yummy bbq. It's the kind of low-key evening I love, and it was the perfect way to get back to reality after our amazing weekend in Tahoe.
Summer dresses are pretty much my favorite.

This dessert was the highlight of my night. I forget the name of it but it was peaches, a caramel like sauce and puff pastry. Pretty much amazing.
I ate two, yup that amazing, and I am not even a dessert girl.

Look of the Day: There's Something About Amber

I am blessed to have some of the best friends a girl could ask for. They know me to a T. Whether I'm having a Amber, Slamber or Bambi kind of day, they know what to expect. While they might not always get me, they love my silliness anyway, and I'm happy to have them in my life. For example, Jen doesn't always appreciate my style, but she gets it. And when she saw this dress at Urban Outfitters she knew it was "So Amber". So Amber that I had to get it. So Amber that it's pretty much perfect on me, and so Amber almost seems like it's made for me. It could practically be my uniform.
A breton striped dress, that is fun to twirl. Could a girl like me really ask for more?
I think not.

When I walked into Jen's salon I sold the entire place on the dress.
I think they all just wanted a dress that was SO them too.

Look of the Day: Prepster

When putting outfits together I like outfits that set me apart just a bit. My goal is to never wear exactly what everyone is wearing. The latest Bloggers Do It Better Challenge was to put together an outfit based on the America Prep School style -- bow tie/tie and blazer/vest required. It was fun to play around with my Urban Outfitters bow and I always love rocking a blazer. While the colors of my outfit are anything but typical prepster, I though the very light pink was the perfect way to soften up this look. I also added the readers to add the perfect preppy finishing touch. It was a really fun look to rock for a day, and it was bold enough to warrant compliments from strangers. And wearing it made me feel anything but ordinary.

Amber's {outfit} Notebook: Rainbow Bright

When I pulled this blouse out of my closet I had planned on wearing the same way I always wear it - with high waisted flare jeans (like here), but that seemed so boring. While the blouse makes a statement in it's self because of the color, I decided I might as well pair it with an equally bright skirt. The bright on bright on look was the perfect combination.

I added even more color when I grabbed my Marc by Marc Jacobs purse and my gym bag.

Amber's {shopping} Notebook: Bright & Bold

I am noticing as the season shifts I am drawn to a few things: bright colors, bold patterns and anything pertaining to the 70's trend. I'm loving all the bell bottom jeans and fun colored blouses out there. I am also noticing how skirts are a really great wardrobe acquisition because they can mixed and matched so well.
Bring on the bright colors!
IMG_6986
Some of my recent purchases include:
-This midi yellow chevron dress from Urban Outfitters (that I swear looks better on then on the model and it reminds me of dresses my Mom used to wear in the 70's and in the 8-'s they resided in my dress-up box)
-This colorful Urban Outfitters dress also arrived I (It has a slightly longer hemline then I was expecting and I love it. I the long hemline will make this dress more useful then just a beach dress)
-And these Forever 21 Skirts. When I sized up in the lace one the length seemed very versatile for spring and summer outfits and a flouncy forever 21 skirt (similar to this style) that I might just wear everyday when I get a bit of sun on my legs.
-I also thrifted a polka dot J crew skirt, and picked up a few items from H&M. Like a hot pink and orange skirt on mega sale and this bohemian jumper from H&M that I had to have after seeing it on Gisele. Who buys something after seeing it on Giselle!?
What items have you been purchasing for spring?

Amber's {Outfit} Notebook: Back At It

My sister's birthday celebration this weekend was finally a reason for me to get up and get back to normal. So I ended my week in pajamas and threw on my favorite leopard dress from Urban Outfitters and I felt like me again. I just adore this dress. It's comfortable, flattering and can be easily dressed up or down. And right now I'm happy to wear pieces like this for (hopefully) the last time before the weather catches up with the seasons and it begins to feel like spring.
I'm pretty happy to back and feeling almost normal!
Happy first day of spring!

Look of the Day: Fresh Air

The weather in California has been unusually spring-like and I have using it as an excuse to unplug from technology and go outside. On Friday afternoon I enjoyed some Vitamin D while I walked around Berkley with my friends, Vanessa and Courtney. We strolled around and treated ourselves to a raw/vegan lunch at Cafe Gratitude, and had a blast. Cafe Gratitude is a restaurant that is all about being healthy and happy -- inside and out. And we sure felt that energy after leaving.

Look of the Day: I Change Shapes Just To Hide In This Place

I love Mondays that are really Tuesday's. I ended my three day weekend with a trip to the Yoga studio and woke up feeling very refreshed today! While my poses are not perfect, I just love the feeling of stretching and the calming of meditation. And I love how Yoga reminds how amazing the human body is --what it can do and the shapes it can come to form.

The sunshine has also helped keep me in a great mood. How can you not be happy when the sun is out? And since it has been sunny I have been reaching for skirts and dresses, because once it starts to get rainy those will be left in my closet. It's still a bit chilly though, so I threw on my favorite Urban Outfitters sweater over my flannel for a bit of warmth -- I just loved how the opposite patterns played off each-other. The zebra-ish stripes and the plaid just seemed to work well together. Plaid and animal prints are two things I will never tire of.
But I'm Still, I'm still an animal.
Happy Tuesday Ladies!

Look of the Day: Go Ask Alice

I mentioned that I have been organizing lately, and it made me realize that I have been neglecting some of my pieces. So yesterday I made en effort to grab one that hadn't made it out for awhile. I purchased this jacket a few years ago after seeing it on Jenifer Love Hewitt wearing it. I just love the nautical feel it has. And since I was wearing it with jeans I decided to add color by wearing a red top, and a yellow headband and scarf.
Yesterday it was still pretty 'chilly' out!
I always feel slightly like Alice in Wonderland with a headband in...

Look of the Day: What a Beautiful Mess I'm In

I've mentioned before that I can be messy. And one of the things I am attempting in the New Year to to be neater and have less clutter. I am blessed by how much I received for Christmas but before I put away all my new things I decided it's time to purge and let go of things I have been hanging on to for far too long. I even looked through my blog to see what pieces I wear over and over and this Urban top has made it's appearance several times, most recently in my "ode to Gwen Stefani" (also seen here, and here). My reward for myself when I finish cleaning is to set up my new iPad that my Dad gave me. I work well when I have a reward in sight.

Let's be honest here this is an old outfit I never posted. When my desk and girly room are clean new outfits will resume.

Look of the Day: Stop It's Panda Time!

Being the crazy fan I am, I kept my dress streak alive amidst all the baseball buzz. To keep it relevant, I just added a few pops of orange to my black and white dress. You know, in honor of the big game. I even rocked the Panda necklace that my Mom gave me. In fact I received many compliments and questions of where my necklace was from. It's from Sears, of all places, in case you were wondering.

Look of the Day: Do You Remember the 21st Night of September?

I always that would make a really cool wedding date. The only eventful things that occurred on last night's 21st night of September included watching a really boring Giants game (at least it resulted in a win) and the Glee premier.

Wow! Did anyone else think Lea Michelle looked completely different? Besides her new hair, she lost a ton of {unnecessary} weight! I guess that's what Hollywood does to you. I hope the cast can keep it together, its such a fun show.

I mean we don't want another Mischa Barton running around leaving the O.C. after three seasons. That not only cursed the show but, her career. What exactly has she been up to lately?

Well at least we have next week's Britney episode to look forward. I'm sure it's a lot of hype, but I love Britney! And I she rocked her HIMYM cameo. I'm hoping for a similar performance.
Denim, Lace and sparkles.
Perfect for my 21st outfit of September.
