Flowers of the Week: Botany of Desire

I am almost ready to reveal the new additions to my girly room. But for now, here is a small glimpse inside my room and a view at the lovelies that are brightening up my week. I cherish this short time I have with tulips, it seems to pass so quickly. If you also love tulips, I highly recommend checking out the Micheal Pollen's book and or documentary 'The Botany of Desire'. In it Pollan explains how humans desires and wants transformed and 'made' plants as we know them now.
Tulips really should be treasured for their beauty and timeliness.

Things I Love: The Small Things

This week I have been sick. So instead of dwelling that, I have been focusing my energy on the little things that have been making me happy. For instance Watson on Jeopardy this week. Has anyone else found this to be incredibly amazing!? My mom and I have been loving 'him', although I would like to see Ken Jennings get a little more action in. I love watching how Watson generates answers. I think the technology is just fascinating and it's possible impacts on the medical field seem really amazing and helpful.
Here are a few other things making me smile this week:
The first signs of spring in my yard.

A home cooked Valentine's dinner made by Casey.
Bobby Flay Fish Tacos, so yummy!

A cute book to get caught up in.IMG_5199
And February afternoons that are perfect for snuggling up in my chair to read.

I hope you find some small things that make you happy this week as well!

Flowers of the Week: Dahling, be a doll.

I am just loving the flowers from my Farmers Market. This week these gorgeous Dahlia's spoke to me and I knew I had to purchase them. Their color is much deeper in person and I just love all the dimensions in the blooms. This bouquet is more organic and natural then arranged, but I think it suits the Dahlia's impressive blooms. They were the perfect touch to my girly room.

Flowers of the Week: Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace

The farmer's market is one of my favorite places to go. It's always filled with interesting people and I love chatting with the vendors. When picking out flowers the florist told me to look for a flower that speaks to me and that would be the bouquet i should pick. And right away I saw a flower that spoke to me. I think it was calling for me because it reminded me of Jen, maybe because she likes pink so much. It was the prefect bouquet to brighten up my girly room all week.
I always love how the flowers from the farmers market come wrapped in newspaper.

Flowers of the Week: Flower Child

I love sunflowers. There is just something so fun and bright about them, they put a smile on my face. And to me they are the first signal that Autumn is on it's way. I used to love Sunflowers so much I wore my love for them on my sleeve, literally. I had a lovely sunflower sweatshirt and sunflowers earrings. My room might have decorated with sunflowers as well. Now I just fondly adore them in pitchers and in fields.

Things I love: Pretty Parties

Recently I went to my friend Annie's house for a Stella and Dot party and her decorations and appetizers for the party were just lovely. It reminded me of a Tea Party, all the details were antique, girly and chic.
I just loved her collection of three pitchers that she used for her flower arrangement. I definitely want to recreate a collection of three arrangements for one of my Flowers of the Week Posts. It makes such a big statement to use three vases compared to one. I just love it and I can't wait to recreate. Since I don't have a collection pitchers Ill probably use jars. Jars are my favorite on-the-cheap vase!

Her Mom's collection of antique cake stands were the perfect accoutrement to mirror the triple flower pitchers.
Annie's Lemon bar recipe here.
Annie posted the recipe to this asparagus tart on her blog here.
It's the perfect party appetizer.
Yay for pretty parties!

Flowers (and Sweets) of the Week: Oh What A Little Stirring Anthem of Wellness

Six days and one night in the ER later and I am HOME! yay! I am still weak and tired but I am home and can relax here now, so you can only imagine how happy I am. Again thank you all you for all your wonderful comments and thoughts. It made me so happy to read them. I suppose one of the good parts of this ordeal was all the love and sweet sweet symbols of love I received from my wonderful friends and family. I now have many beautiful flowers to look at and sweet treats to snack while relaxing this weekend.
These orchids are stunning! I only hope I can care for them properly.
Thank you Mona and Erica!
Lovely Irises and Rose from Rena and my Dad.
Get Well Peonies, than you Jamie!
Balloons and Roses from Mandy and Kitty!
I need a pretty pot for these.
Yummy treats from the Frosting Bake Shop. The Cake bites were SO yummy! I had the 24 carrot one and the lemon one. I recommend saving this website, it such a cute thing to send someone for their birthday, or any other occasion.

And Casey got me a Carrot Cake with the Seinfeld Get Well song on it.
"It's Carrot it's good for you"
Get Well, Get well soon, we wish you to get well
and then they all eat eat cake, as Casey said.
And lots of sweet magazines and care packages from my lovely friends.
Thank you again for all your warm thoughts and sweet comments!!
Yay for feeling better, being home and care packages!!!

Flowers of the Week: Couch Potato

I made a bunch of flower arrangements this week that I planned to scatter all through out the house, but then I got sick and my flowers have remained on my coffee table right in front of my couch. Which isn't all bad, because since I have been sick I have spent most of my time on the couch. Ever since I was child my Mom always set me up on the couch when I was sick and I still do that to this day. The husband like it because then he can keep the bedroom, that bathroom and his dude room a germ-free zones. Does anyone else do this? At least I can enjoy my flowers hidden behind my mounds of Kleenex, Vitamin Water bottles, Nyquil and my netti pot.
My View:

I was trying to show how you don't have to spend a lot to make pretty arrangement.
This is lavender from the backyard with carnations.
Iris's and Daises in a bright vase.
Backyard roses
Unfortunately not from my backyard. I not good to my roses. And a lone Gerbera in an old bottle.
Yay for:
Things I can smile about even while feeling sick .
Wendy for playing Words With Friends with me when that is all I can muster up and do when I am lying on the couch.
Oh great, now the husband feels sick...

Flowers of the Week: Chasing Dasies

Like I mentioned in my previous post, the weather has felt like anything but May. It looks like is may be a litte nicer out there today. Well at least my spring mix of flowers and staying inside out of the cold and sprinkles makes it feel a little more like May. I am hoping the weather makes it way back to spring be for Memorial Day because I want to be outside on my three Day weekend. Only a week away!
I had to change the white balance because you could see how gloomy it looked in the first picture.

Yay for Flowers, Fridays and Fun ! Hmm a flower Friday may be fun..

Flower of the Week: Millions of Peaches

I loved the peach color of these gerbera daisies and they look just splendid in my green vase from Crate and Barrel. Last week I went back to Crate and Barrel to find other cute vases but I didn't find any I cared for, perhaps next time.
They feel very SPRING!
My local farmers market is back for the season. I can't wait to go this weekend and pick up some fresh flowers!

Flower of the Week: Inspired Combo

This week when I was standing in line at Trader Joe's the women in line ahead of me turned aroudn and asked where I got the white hydrangeas I had in my cart, so pointed her in their direction. When she returned she showed me how she planned to pair them with some lilacs, the combination was just lovely. Naturally, I asked her where the lilacs were, and went to check them out, when I saw the $9 price tag I was reminded that I have my own Lilac tree with blooms on it that I could use instead. Unfortunatly most of my lilac blooms were gone, but I plan to remember this lovely combination for next year. Hopefully I run into that women in the future, so she can inspire me again.
The white and liliac combonation is so pretty and the fragrance is amazing.
The vase is from one of the table arrangements at my wedding.
And some irises from my yard.
What are your flowers for the week? Post link for me if you took pictures.
