After my recent Babysitters Club post and the enthusiasm behind it ,I decided I needed to post about the other series that ruled my world as well.(Nancy Drew, Saddle Club and Laura Ingalls, calm down and wait your turn). I could never forget Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, they were my idols! Being a Gemini myself (my birthday is a mere day after their June 13th birthday) I could never pick which twin I am more like (Jessica). I mean, to be the editor of the Oracle? Amazing! Or to be the scheming, boy crazy Jessica? NEVER! All I wanted was to be was a size 6 wearing (perfect example of how size image has changed over the years), Jeep driving, California girl and I knew I would happy. Good girl, bad girl, who care. Those books were amazing!
The only thing I loved more then the books was the SVH game...
Oh to steal boyfriends, wear party dresses, and get Detentions!? Wherever did I learn such things? These were my Soap Opera's back then. Seriously, I need a new series to read!
I read every single version of these books.
I may have to bust these back out for some poolside reading this summer!
Yay for Fridays, SVH and books that are almost as bad as watching MTV reality shows.
I'm guilty of reading them all too. It was the only series I would read at that age and I loved them!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED SWEET VALLEY HIGH BOOKS--- HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND
ReplyDeleteKELLY ANN
Oh I loved those too, although I had to draw the line at the mysteries...they were just too ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI loved Sweet Valley Twins and Baby Sitters Little Sisters... I guess I never graduated to the "high school" aged books.... but wow, brings me back to wigwams and side ponytails...
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha Sweet Valley High!!! YES!!! I agree, loved it too and had totally forgotten about it!
ReplyDeleteSize 6 - sheesh, good call.

I used to LOOOOVE these books. I also loved the Baby Sitters Club and had parties with my friends to watch the movie and discuss the books. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

omigosh i love it! i learned to speed-read with these books, i read them ALL! so if you bust em out to read, maybe i will too, haha .. yeah, size 6 - no comment .. so i never had the game, did i totally miss out???
ReplyDeleteOh I read both SVH and SVT! What a trip down memory lane - Liz was my fave twin and heck, I even watched them during that short-lived TV series.
ReplyDeletei was so elizabeth but wanted to be jessica. i think i was a pretty good hybrid of the two, only things didn't work out quite so neatly for me. now that i live in southern cali, all i wanna do is reread these books!!!
ReplyDeletehahaha you're cracking me up with these throw back posts! I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I loved these SO much! I was totally Elizabeth. Also loved Babysitter's Club and I had every Nancy Drew known to man. The cool ND, when she was hot and had boyfriends, not the dorky pre-pubescent ones. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome memories!
HAHA omg, I just died when I saw the "Up All Night Long" title with the creep-ass in the mustache. Loves it! And I was equally obsessed with these books. I remember I got a perm in grade school (!), took a Babysitters Club book with me to read in the chair and got perm shit all over it. I was devestated! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG...I lived and died by SVH and the Saddle Club. So many good memories. So funny about all the references to "the perfect size 6"...
ReplyDeleteI use to read and watch all the SVH series! I think I am going to have to revist them as well!
ReplyDeleteCheck out and follow if you'd like!

I have been obsessed with them for FOREVER! I read and owned every single book in the whole collection. I literally wanted to BE them and fear re-reading those books again may start a repeat craze on my part. But your post has seriously got me thinking... :)
ReplyDeleteI have this board game and love it! I haven't played it in a few years though! I did find some on eBay a couple of years ago and gave it to my cousin for Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteI loved these books, too! I remember my 7th grade English teacher frowning reprovingly at me and telling me they were "trash." I read them anyway... ;) Of course, I also had a lot of mind-improving classics on my reading list as well (you don't become an English major without that somewhere in your history), so I think it all balances out.
ReplyDeleteomg!!! i loved sweet valley high and the babysitters club! i think i've read almost all the books in those two series! :D

Wow that is so awesome! I loved these books as well and haven't thought of them in forever!!!

We played that game all the time! I always wanted to be Elizabeth!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, I forgot about that game!!! Too funny. I always liked Jess better than Elizabeth, but I was MUCH more like Elizabeth in reality.
ReplyDeleteMy parents have all of my SV Twins and SVH books packed away in boxes at their house...I looked at them recently, and I remember my favorite SV Twins book was called "Sneaking Out". I am pretty sure it was book #5 and had a magenta cover. I also loved the SV High book where Amy Sutton comes back and it turns out she is more like Jessica than Elizabeth. Does anyone remember those ones?!
Or what about the SVH "Playing with Fire" book? I remember hiding that one from my mom because I thought she wouldn't approve of it if she flipped through it. LOL
ReplyDeleteI loved SVH! I loved going to the bookstore to buy the newest one. Now you have inspired me to dig mine out of my parents warehouse! (They moved recently and everything old is packed away)
ReplyDeleteWow! First babysitters club, then sweet valley high... those things were stored in some deep recesses of my brain! I loved that crap!
ReplyDeleteI remember when they had the TV show. It filmed at my Jr. High and I got an autograph from the cute boy in it...I wonder where they are now!!?
ReplyDeleteI love that I'm not the only one who remembers these books! LOL It's so fun going down memory lane. But of course, I also feel ollllldddd;)
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised the covers are the same from the time I read them to your days. I remember coveting that red cardigan!
ReplyDeleteMan, those books were the BEST! I read every single one of the Twins series and the High series! Did you know that they re-released some SVH books and made them more modern? I picked one up to see how much they had actually changed in it, and the twins went from a size 6 to a size 4! And they dropped all these references like Jessica wearing a Roxy dress, the twins having cell phones, and stuff like that. I was disappointed... it felt like they were selling out. The best part about the original books is that they are timeless... the new re-released versions are not timeless at all. The classics are where it's at!
ReplyDeleteHaha, omg I used to LOVE that board game!! And, I was obsessed with the tv show when it was on back in the day, too!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, memories! :)
OMG , I totally remember SVH!!! I liked Ken (that was his name right? Todd's bestie who dated Elizabeth? That happened in SVU though)
ReplyDeleteJust read in Glamour that Diablo Cody is working on a film adaption of Sweet Valley High. I immediately thought of you and this post; )
ReplyDeleteI think I might go thrifting to recreate my collection of paperbacks... Have you read any of the Gossip Girl books? So bad, but so good.
